NUS computing students achieved outstanding results at ICPC Challenge Championship and ICPC Training Camp powered by Huawei

31 August 2023 — Huawei successfully concluded the ICPC Challenge Championship and ICPC Training Camp powered by Huawei last week in Dongguan, China. Among the contestants were 6 students from NUS, who were accompanied by their coach - Dr Tan Sun Teck.

The event kicked off with an opening ceremony, followed by a prize ceremony where 3 students - Teow Hua Jun, Zhang Ji Kun, and Lim An Jun were each awarded the second prize for the 2023 ICPC Spring Online Challenge powered by Huawei that they participated in previously.

The International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) is an algorithmic programming contest for college students. This time, Huawei partnered with ICPC Foundation to host the very first ICPC Challenge Championship powered by Huawei, with 58 contestants from 25 countries participating in a five-hour individual challenge. Despite facing strong competition, NUS second-year Computer Science student - Lim An Jun won the second prize, ranking number six in the final standings.

Additionally, NUS ICPC team - The Spiders from Mars was also invited to the ICPC Training Camp powered by Huawei under a new team name “Kids See Ghosts”, which comprises three members: Computer Science students Vu Hoang Kien, Nyamdavaa Amar, and Jeffrey Lee Chun Hean.

The Training Camp aims to provide an extended platform to support high-level programming training and innovation for college students who are passionate about programming and algorithms. On the second day of the training camp, Kids See Ghosts team finished the five hours team competition in seventh place among a total of 36 teams, successfully solving 8 out of 12 problems.

The NUS students certainly accomplished another milestone in the ICPC Challenge Championship and ICPC Training Camp powered by Huawei. Congratulations NUS team!
